The 10,000 square foot T. Neil Davis Science Operations Center, or SOC, at Poker Flat Research Range is the scientific hub of the range, providing optical observing facilities, rocket launch decision areas, the Geospace Environment Data Display System (GEDDS), computers with access to the Geophysical Institute's Data Analysis Center and the Internet, and office, rest, and kitchen areas.
The SOC is located on the hilltop above the rocket launching area at:
65 degrees 7 minutes 9.0 seconds North Latitude (+65.119167)
147 degrees 25 minutes 49.3 seconds West Longitude (-147.430361)
Surrounding trees shield the SOC from any significant light pollution from the activities below, while the hilltop provides an excellent view of the sky for auroral observations and visual tracking of rockets.
